A Day in the (Mohegan) Sun

Good morning! How have you been?

Mohegan Sun has been a lot of fun so far! Here’s a recap of the day:

Yesterday after I ate my $4 room service, I headed to the fitness center for an energizing workout. I just love when each cardio machine has its own TV. I can watch parts of Rachael Ray and The View til my heart’s content, which until I can pull up a chair to the left of Barbara next to Elisabeth, Sherri, Joy, and Whoopie, will always be slightly discontent.

Lounged by the pool.

And then I met Daniel for lunch at Geno’s Fast Break, a big open food court with a zillion food offerings: Asian, Mexican, Italian, standard deli fare, southern comfort food like fried chicken and biscuits, and a smorgasbord of desserts. It’s quick and relatively cheap.

I ordered a chicken salad with French dressing and a fresh fruit bowl.

Oh, and a raspberry seltzer. Gotta get my recommended daily allowance of bubbles.

I then explored the casino, which I found to be sleek, new, clean, and quite beautiful.

Rock caves in Connecticut?

I browsed books for a while. I didn’t realize it was “a while” until I caught the sales lady’s eye. She thought I should buy it or beat it.

Sipped a grande latte. Yum.

Then I got an 80 minute deep tissue massage at the lovely spa. The masseuse managed to clear up my confusion over the phrase, “Hurts so good.” I was in a state of utter bliss. After she worked out the knots, kinks, and tension, I felt like a new woman. I love a good massage because I spend the whole time completely present, very aware of my body and all of the powerful sensations. Such a worthwhile experience.

Munched on cashews, which may be my favorite member of the nut family.

Discovered that Brookstone sells dime-sized baby frogs in eco-tariums?? I want one.

Thought long and hard about buying a set of kissing pug salt and pepper shakers.

Then I realized I already have my very own shaker at home.

Crunched through a granny.

Was so happy I got to choose the restaurant for dinner when Daniel was finally finished with day one of the poker tournament.

Bobby Flay’s Burger Palace. Doesn’t need an intro, just a bib.

It had such a cool retro feel, with winding lacquered countertops, stools, and all the accoutrements of an old time diner.

I love ketchup so naturally I had to try every creation  in the condiment carousel. Chipotle ketchup was the winner.

For my meal I started with the Crunch Salad, which had chopped romaine, tomatoes, kalamata olive, chickpeas, kidney beans, cheddar cheese, and scallions. Very different and tasty combo.

And then I moaned my way through “The Dallas Burger.” This was a certified angus beef, spice crusted burger (cooked medium)  smothered in smoky barbecue sauce and monterey jack cheese. The waitress confirmed that this burger was her favorite on the menu. Un.Be.Lieve.Able.

Juicy, spice crusted, and covered in gooey sharp cheese.

The barbecue sauce was deliciously rich- smoky like hickory, sweet like brown sugar, and spicy like a good kick from chiles.

Knockout.

One happy camper.

Phew! You made it through the never ending post in one piece, pat yourself on the back. I’m off to wrangle up some breakfast- Starbucks, maybe? I hope your morning is off to a good start, folks! I’ll be back at lunchtime.
