Remember that time I asked you to use applesauce to bake donuts? I hope so; it was yesterday. Welp, here’s a reminder. Aaaand a recipe for spiced applesauce in the slow cooker. Does it get better than that?
Now’s the season for something warm, homey, and brown sugared. I can’t think of anything better than filling my house with the smell of apples and cinnamon, can you?

Ooh, I’ve never made applesauce, but now that I see how easy it is I have to try. Does it matter what type of apple you use?
I just started making homemade applesauce. The first time I threw what I had. When my kids were in kindergarten they made some. The teachers encouraged them to bring 3 different apples. It was really tasty. :)
I recently started making applesauce in the slow cooker and it is wonderful! It makes me actually enjoy apple sauce again.
Mine is even easier – I thoroughly wash, but don’t peel the apples. I cut them in four pieces, cut out the core and throw the rest in the slow cooker.
I turn it on.
In the morning, I add spices: cinnamon (lots!), nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
Then I attack the whole thing with my stick blender.
That’s it. No sugar, no water, nada. Just apples, along with the peels, which you’ll never know were in there.
I like to use a variety of apples. Maybe half or 3/4 Granny Smith or Macintosh, then a mixture of whatever’s on sale. Pears and other fruits have been know to apply.
So good!
I agree with Marlene. I never use sugar. Apples are natually sweet on their own.
Oh!!! You read my mind! Or my comment. Or both!
Oh wow! Looks so easy. I am sooo making this. THank you!
I absolutely adore homemade applesauce-sooooo delicious! I especially love it warm out of the Crock Pot. So good!
Stove-top cooking apple sauce takes way less time. Is there a difference in taste?
Hi Emily, how do you exactly do with stove-top cooking ? I don’t have a slow cooker. Thanks for sharing.
Hmmm, mine came out watery. I’m thinking it doesn’t even need the water? What kind of apples are best, maybe I used watery-er apples?
I just found you and have loved reading your blog. I just made applesauce and all I did was core them and bake them in a covered castiron pot for about 45 min. at 325. They were devine! I used some pippin and some granny smith. I did not peel them. The red peel gives them a pink hue.
will try, I love apples anyway

Do you think i can use Fuji for this recipe?
Yes, that sound be fine. Not as crisp as Granny Smith and pippin but very tasty!
Thanks for the reply, Kristen! Good advice!
Hey Janet,
Yep; I think Fuji will be great!
