Hello it is Monday Oct. 25th this is my first day of the journey I am starting. I need to loose about 20lbs and get healthy and today is the day I have set my mind to do so. I read your article in womans day magazine and thought finally a diet I can stick to and enjoy some real food. Thank you so much for sharing your story and wish me luck!

  • Karen says:

I too just read the article in womans day magazine and could relate to everything in it. I want to change my eating pattern I just don’t know where to start. I’m 48 and have been thin all my life and have eaten anything I wanted but the last 5 years all that has changed I’ve gained 40 lbs. and don’t have the tools to eat healthy. Do you have a book or something with all the receipes and tools to get started. Every monday I say I’m going to start and by lunch time I’ve blown it. Thank you in advance for any input.

  • Becca says:

I enjoyed the WW article and I am liking your diet as presented in the magazine, but which recipes on your website are applicable? Seems like there are tons of sweets and desserts on here!

    • Hi Becca! Thanks for visiting! Most of the recipes here are healthy in that they use mainly whole, real ingredients and I’d say that almost all of them are around 400-500 calories per serving, which I find to be a really fantastic meal size. I know there are lots of desserts, that is because I adore sweets and even more, I love baking and cooking. I don’t limit myself to only making healthy dishes, and I really do try to enjoy absolutely everything in moderation. The article made it seem like you’d find a weight loss plan here- me telling you what to eat for breakfast lunch and dinner. But that’s not what this blog is right now. I simply want to share the experiences I’ve had, the journey I’ve gone through, and to show others that you really can lose weight and eat well. It’s all about the balance. I also want to share the recipes I’ve come to love. I hope you’ll stick around and maybe try some of the recipes! I wish you all the best! -Andrea

Thanks for your reply! I will definitely stick around and hopefully I can learn better eating habits :-)

Just came across your blog thanks to Jessica on How Sweet it Is and I am speechless! Your story is beautiful and soooo similar to mine and the pictures are mouthwatering. Don’t think my Moleskin is big enough to pen down all the recipes I wanna cook from your blog. Hope you pop over to my freshly started blog and share some of your kitchen secrets with us….

I’m glad that you liked the taste, but am dipsapointed that they turned out fragile for you. Hmmm, odd. When I made these, mine were crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. I wonder if it has something to do with varying oven temperatures. I checked on these often through the baking time because I was worried about overbaking them. I wish I had a real solution to suggest for next time … aside from try baking them shorter or at a slightly lower temperature. Thanks for sharing! ~Megan

  • Katie P says:

Andie- Since you spent time in Italy cooking and eating do you have an amazing recipe for homemade gnocchi? It’s one of my favorite food and it’s on my bucket list of things I want to learn to make well. Thanks!

  • Rebecca Seaman says:

Hi Andie – a few weeks back, might have even been June you had a very simple and delicious way you roast your broccoli. Now I cannot find it in your recipes or in your previous blogs. Can you repost for me please?

    Thanks so much.

PS: I just LOVE your blog and your writing.

You used to have a recipe for blueberry bars or coppler on here. I loved it but cannot find it anymore. You’ve got a picture under the ‘on cooking’ section. Hope you know, what I am talking about. Can you email it to me, please?

I can’t wait to try all these recipes!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Rich says:

I think I may be the first guy to post on here, but I stumbled upon this after Rebecca Schley shared a pretty tasty looking picture of the lemon garlic tuna burgers on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/pin/194569646370894489/ – The website is made for you if you haven’t already got a pinboard set up). It’s safe to say I’m going to be giving those a try tonight and note them down for a future fancy lunch.

Congratulations on putting together such an inspirational website. I’m sure this will serve to help many people and I’ll be heading back here if I ever overuse the ice-cream maker too much!

  • Michelle says:

I am 346lbs right now. I’ve lost 109lbs since last June…so a year and 6 months. I’ve hit a plateau. I can no longer walk because I have plantar fasciitis that causes horrible shooting pain along my feet and sometimes if I’m on my feet for more than three hours it will spread all the way up to my knees via my calves. Its horrible and I ignored it for so long the doctor says I will just have to stay off my feet until they heal and then do the 8 million different exercises every morning and night after if I want to maintain it until I lose the rest of the weight. So I’ve been focusing on nutrition. I’m kind of a binge eater…I suppose is what you’d call it. I won’t eat until 6pm them I won’t stop until I go to bed at 9 or 10pm. I don’t feel hungry for the first part of the day and then when I finally I am I feel like I’m starving to death. So I’m making myself eat in the mornings before work and dragging food along with me to work and then eating a nice dinner and leaving it at that. Work isn’t cooperating. They’ve just made a rule that no one can have any food in their offices except snack food from the vending machines. So I don’t get to snack on carrots anymore but I’ve never had much of a sweet tooth or been a snacker so this just means I don’t get carrots while I write reports which..I dislike. LOL. Anyway I HATE COOKING. I’ve read your entire blog today and I wish I liked to cook. I LOVE to bake.. cookies, cake, cupcakes, tiramisu (didn’t turn out well but my boyfriend eat it anyway)…but I never eat the desserts I make. Its kind of like the crafts that I love..once I’ve made something I want someone else to LOVE it like I do and I immediately search people out to please with my desserts and crafts. Savory food has escaped me though…the bane of my existence is mashed potatoes which I can’t seem to make NOT RUNNING regardless of the recipe I follow. I’ve been trying to make them since I was in middle school. NOTHING DOING TATERS. lol. Lately I’ve been branching out though. I really want to eat healthy and I’ve always leaned that way I just eat too much healthy. I gorged myself on carrots (no dressing blehhhhh) I used to literally eat heads of lettuce all by their lonesome when I was little. My mother loves telling that story. Not that carrots and lettuce are the cause but when you can put away two asian pears, three mangos, five oranges, and a pineapple in one day…it packs on. Fruits and Veggies are my addiction. I have a difficult time getting meat into most of my meals and I eat way way way too much BREAD for anyones OWN good. I’ll bring a bucket (metaphor for my bowl) of veggies/fruit and an entire loaf of french bread to the table and eat the works. Its weird but its something I’ve been working on. I just turn into a DUMMMY when it comes to making savory meals. My boyfriend likes to cook terrible unhealthy meals but he is so active he maintains a weight of about 170 and hasn’t had any trouble. I can’t rely on his cooking anymore but he doesn’t mind cooking…but I just can’t do it. No more lasagna, tuna noodle casserole, or mac and cheese PLEASE! So I thought I would tell you my story and let you know that I’m going to do my best to try your recipes because they look delicious and right up my alley especially the vegetarian!!! lol

      Michelle,
I wish you the best of luck, I myself am in the 350 range and am in desperate need of a new way of eating. I’ve been reading this site today at work and find it very inspiring. Now, to find the motivation!! :)

    • Jessica says:

I had plantar fasciitis for the better part of 2 years. It was SO painful! And I did the same thing – ignored it to the point where it became a big issue. I spent hundreds on doctor visits, had 3 cortisone shots, tried 6+ months of physical therapy, wore a boot… you name it. I finally had the surgery, and although the recovery was painful and put me out of commission for 3-4 weeks, IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. The surgery has advanced and is now arthroscopic, so the podiatrist can see what they are doing instead of cutting blindly like hey did years ago. You should see if this is an option, or maybe try a new doc. I can’t imagine why you would have to just suffer through it!

    • Danielle says:

wow that is amazing you have lost over 100lbs! you can do it. You done awesome so far!

  • Christen says:

You sound like me. Except I didnt eat that much but I am a fruit, veggie, and bread addict! I was getting totally frustrated when this summer I trained to run a 5K and counted calories and didn’t lose weight! I went to the doctor and they told me that I was insulin resistant and that I needed to eat more protein. What happens is even when I eat good foods like fruits and vegetables, my body can’t process it properly and my blood sugar spikes causing my body to store it as fat. Basically ive had to cut out carbs and eat protein. If I do eat carbs, I have to make sure I have enough protein to trick my body into processing it properly. I’ve done this a week and lost 4 lbs! It sucks the first couple of days and then really isn’t that bad after that. Good luck!!!

  • Mel H says:

Michelle, I want to suggest something for your fasciitis, that worked for my husband. As long as he wears them, he has NO more pain!!! He got special insoles for his shoes, (i know the prices can be astronomical), but these are sold at the Birkenstock Store. I want to say they were about $60, but after you know the size, I found them online for about $36. They were recommended by someone else, and has saved him!!! He’s worn them for about 3 yrs now!

BEST OF LUCK to you, as I know that can be painfull!!!

    • Heidi says:

      Mel & Michelle,
About the fasciitis, I also had it. My feet would hurt in the morning for awhile, then as I got going they would calm down. But then I bought Birkenstocks, and I have no more pain either! It’s the best thing I could’ve done. I have the inserts, but I don’t use them, I just wear my Birkenstocks all the time, and get them resoled when the tread wears down. But they saved my feet!!

  • Danielle says:

Im so glad i found this website. I have lost 25lbs in 2 months and have a long way to go but i think some of these recipes with help me on my journey. I cant wait till I reach that day I loose that 135. that is amazing and inspiring.

  • [...] Andie explains her journey on how she started to get healthy here.  What I like about it is that she just started walking…a lot.  She’s not hitting the gym so hard that she is hungry and angry she worked on herself and made peace with walking and with food.  She also has some great recipes! [...]

  • Laura says:

Thank you for the inspiration. Off now to buy the walking shoes (so HATE the gym) to lose the 70lbs. Will do the recipes I know the kids will love too. Thank you from the bottom of my (rather large) heart!

  • Rebecca S says:

Oh my goodness! I am so happy I found your blog! Can’t wait to try these amazing recipes!!

  • Meghan says:

How often did you workout when you started your journey? And for how long a session?

    • admin says:

Hi Meghan, I jogged for 30-40 minutes six days a week. I never did any sort of strength training, only cardio. Looking back, I think it would have been a world better if I had been more balanced in the forms of exercise I did.
      Thanks for reading,
      Andie

    • Mehmet says:

I just made these- they are dceuliois! I made them for all of my house mates and they are devouring them. For me, this recipe made about 2 dozen, and the cookies still came out huge!

  • Melanie says:

    Hi again Andie,

I was wondering if you had a good italian dressing/vinaigrette recipe?

    Thanks!
    Melanie

  • Nina says:

I am looking for the motivation to do this I need to lose 60. I know with my personality I need someone to encourage me and hold me accountable for what I do and praise me for what I do right. Glad I found your blog…..I am gonna try this again.

  • Inas says:

    Hello,

I really love your blog and your honest (and sometimes funny) way of writing. I just started my journey and I am quite terrified that I won’t manage it, especially since I could not keep my weight last time. I still need to lose at least 130lbds and I would like to lose most of it within this year.
What inspires me most is that you can still eat ‘normal’ and sometimes not so healthy food, that it’s alright not to exercise daily and that it is still possible to keep a healthy weight. Than you for this message!

  • Judi Brogden says:

I’m interested in some of your recipes. I’m on a W.W. program, but hard to find exciting or different recipes.

  • You’ve got some crazy awesome recipes!!! :)
